Mrs West Preschool assistant Our pre-school has the same ethos as the main school. All our children wear school uniform. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum to help our children play, learn and grow at their pace or level. We value all our children as individuals and believe it is vital to get to know them and their interests well. Observation of the children at play is key in this. We work closely with parents. We plan a range of developmentally appropriate activities to enable the children to grow and develop but value the activities that the children initiate. We encourage our children to be independent and think for themselves. Our children can decide when they wish to have a drink or snack and are able to help themselves. The class environment is organised into distinct areas. Each child has a book bag and can borrow books to take home. CREATIVE PLAY AREA HOME CORNER READING CORNER
Like all Early Years settings we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our curriculum is tailored to the needs of the individual. There are six areas :
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication, Language and Literacy
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Creative Development

Our newly opened building leads on to our outdoor area, which is securely fenced and offers a wide range of different learning experiences. We are currently developing this area and shall start digging our allotment soon! Watch this space for photos. We share this outdoor area with the older Foundation Stage children in Hedgehog class.
Children move on to Hedgehog class in the term after they are four. The children are well prepared for this by a range of different activities.
We have daily contact with parents /carers and involve them in their child’s learning. Parents are invited to attend an open evening each term. This gives them extra time to discuss their child’s development and progress with the child’s key person and view and contribute to the child’s records.
